Job description

Overview

In this role you will advance watershed hydrology and water resources research by developing and applying advanced hydrologic and hydraulic models. You will work with a diverse research team to simulate rainfall-runoff, flood processes, and water quality factors, contributing to flood forecasting and watershed planning tools. The position emphasizes calibration, validation, and deployment of computational tools to support evidence-based decisions. This is an opportunity to shape hydrology research at a leading public university and impact regional water resource management.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and apply surface water, watershed, and flood models for hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality analyses
  • Verify and validate models using field data, monitoring datasets, and historical flood events
  • Simulate watershed processes (rainfall-runoff, streamflow routing, flood inundation, sediment and pollutant transport)
  • Assess impacts of land use change, climate variability, and extreme events on water resources and flooding
  • Support development of computational tools and decision-support systems for flood forecasting and watershed planning
Key requirements
  • Experience in numerical modeling of watershed hydrology, surface water systems, flood processes, and/or water quality
  • Model calibration, verification, and validation using diverse datasets
  • Experience in writing peer-reviewed scientific publications
  • Scientific programming experience (FORTRAN, Python, R)
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaborative mindset with cross-functional teams
  • Numerical modeling of watershed hydrology, surface water systems, flood processes, and water quality
  • Model calibration/verification/validation
  • Programming in FORTRAN, Python, and R
