Senior Legal Counsel - Banking and Markets Group

Overview

In this role you will provide high quality legal advice to senior management and business partners within the Banking and Markets Group. You will support private client, commercial credit, and banking product matters, including regulatory compliance and policy development. You will help manage distressed assets and coordinate with outside counsel, contributing to risk management and strategic initiatives. This position offers a hybrid work model in a globally reputable firm focused on service, expertise, and integrity.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on private client, professional services, not for profit and commercial credit matters, including loan documentation and real estate financings
  • Advise on regulatory aspects of banking products and accounts (deposits, payments)
  • Counsel on banking regulations (Reg U, Reg O, Rule 144, lending limits) and other federal/state laws
  • Support new banking products, business strategy, and policy development (draft/review)
  • Provide legal support for distressed loan workouts, restructurings, and risk management initiatives
  • Draft/review credit and banking policies, standards, and procedures
  • Advise committees and working groups; collaborate with business partners and external counsel
  • Support other corporate initiatives and cross functional collaboration within Legal and Banking teams
Key requirements
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in a top law firm or in house within financial institutions
  • J.D. from an accredited law school; must be licensed to practice in the applicable jurisdiction
  • Strong analytical and practical, solutions oriented legal advice across banking matters
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with business partners, clients and outside counsel
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage risk while supporting business objectives
  • Up to date knowledge of banking and regulatory developments in lending, payments, and deposits
