Overview

In this role you design and implement ammonia refrigeration systems across Pilgrim's facilities, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and ongoing process safety improvements. You lead CAPEX projects, specify equipment, manage contractors, and troubleshoot plant operations. The position involves design work, code compliance, and cross-site collaboration with a strong emphasis on safety and project delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Promote Safe Processes, Projects, Products and People across Pilgrim's sites using OSHA safe work practices
  • Develop and implement CAPEX ammonia refrigeration projects (budgeting, scope, drawings, contractor management, project close-out)
  • Refrigeration system design (equipment selection, piping diagrams, controls, pipe sizing, applicable codes)
  • Troubleshoot and optimize ammonia refrigeration systems and equipment
  • Perform system calculations (heat loads, mass/energy balance, air balance, psychrometrics)
  • Ensure OSHA PSM compliance and apply IIAR/ANSI/ASHRAE standards
  • Participate in MOC, PHAs, PSM/RMP recommendations, and incident investigations
  • Travel to sites as required for operation, safety, and construction of systems
  • Maintain knowledge of new refrigeration codes and standards
  • Other related duties as needed
Key requirements
  • Experience in design and construction of ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Competent with AutoCAD
  • English/Spanish bilingual a plus
  • Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration/thermodynamics basics
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations (inventory, relief valve design, load, energy balances, ventilation)
  • Experience with Six Sigma/TPM/OE or other continuous improvement methods preferred
  • Experience with APSM or similar PSM compliance software
  • Ability to read P&IDs and Block Flow diagrams
  • Ability to write reports and communicate effectively to management
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills; detail-oriented; self-motivated
  • Proven project management and change management skills
  • Willingness to travel and relocate as needed
