Overview In this independent contractor role, you will audit restaurant, bar, grocery, and foodservice operations to verify compliance with NSF standards. You will travel extensively, educate staff, and partner with clients to improve food safety practices. You'll document audit findings and coordinate with internal teams to drive improvements. The position supports NSF's mission to safeguard health through science-driven standards and services. A CP-FS or equivalent certification is expected within 3 months of hire.
Responsibilities- conduct retail food safety audits and second-party assessments
- educate and inform staff on standards and best practices
- summarize audit findings and generate reports
- manage own audit scheduling and workload within defined timeframes
- travel up to 80% and be available for overnight travel
- coordinate with Audit Delivery Manager and Account Manager
- ensure audits are completed as scheduled and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
- maintain professional accreditation and pursue CP-FS/RS/REHS certification within 3 months
Key requirements- degree required
- 2+ years of experience in food safety, restaurant, or grocery operations (preferred)
- excellent verbal and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
- willingness to travel up to 80% including overnight travel
- valid driver's license without restrictions and reliable transportation
- ability to drive at night
- ability to establish or operate a business entity prior to starting
- ability to complete scheduled audits and a minimum of 20 audit hours per month (excluding travel)
- prior food safety experience/knowledge
- ability to obtain CP-FS or equivalent (RS/REHS) within 3 months of hire
