Overview In this role you will support a closed-network, airgapped research environment by administering Linux-based infrastructure across a multi-site setup. You'll own virtualization, storage, identity, security hardening, automation, and observability to enable 70+ scientists and engineers. Working in a small, agile team, you design and automate core services for offline AI/ML workloads while aligning with CMMC Level 2. Responsibilities- Administer Linux domain services (identity, authentication, DNS/NTP, certificates) across airgapped sites
- Build, deploy, and maintain VMs on VMware, Proxmox, Nutanix or similar platforms
- Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and provisioning workflows
- Manage enterprise storage (NAS, file shares, object storage)
- Support network operations including VLANs, firewalls, VPNs
- Deploy and operate containerized services and migrate core services to container orchestration
- Implement security hardening, patching, file integrity monitoring, and audit logging in a disconnected environment
- Support compliance activities for CMMC Level 2 / NIST SP 800-171
- Collaborate with researchers to improve reliability, automation, and usability of shared infrastructure
Key requirements- Linux systems administration experience in enterprise or research
- Experience with Linux domain administration, identity services, centralized authentication, host lifecycle management
- Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs)
- Configuration management/automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt)
- Containerization and orchestration experience
- Storage administration (RAID, volumes, file shares, backup)
- Strong Python and Bash scripting
- Virtualization with enterprise hypervisors (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM)
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance
