Overview In this role you will lead heavy civil highway construction efforts, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to plans and schedules. You will coordinate with crews and subcontractors to meet project milestones while enforcing codes and specifications. You drive two-week lookahead plans, material and manpower logistics, and performance reviews of staff. The position offers impact on project delivery and safety culture within a roadway-focused construction team.
Responsibilities- Read, interpret, and enforce safety policies
- Review plans, specs, and local building codes
- Schedule and document inspections, quality tests, and compliance
- Complete daily and weekly reports (units, safety, meetings, cost worksheets)
- Generate two-week construction schedules weekly from global project timelines
- Schedule and order materials, inspections, and manpower to meet deadlines
- Inspect ongoing work for workmanship and schedule adherence
- Direct personnel and subcontractors to coordinate phases of construction
- Maintain knowledge of equipment and practical usage limits
- Track rental deliveries and usage
- Conduct regular performance reviews and ensure acknowledgment by employees
Key requirements- 10+ years of roadway superintendent or foreperson experience leading heavy equipment crews
- 10+ years of experience across all phases of roadway/highway construction
- 10+ years of roadway/earthwork/ widening-type projects
- 10+ years of DOT roadway project experience
- Education: four or more years related experience and/or training; or a bachelor degree
