Traction Power Project Engineer

Overview

In this role you will contribute to the design and analysis of traction power systems for electrified transport networks from rails to light rail. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to develop electrical schematics, perform power calculations, and support testing and commissioning. The role offers exposure to field data collection, reporting, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. You will help deliver reliable traction power solutions that enable safe, efficient transportation by integrating with broader project teams and customers.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in design and analysis of traction power distribution systems (substations, OCS, third rail).
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts using CAD tools.
  • Perform voltage drop, current, and power performance calculations.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Conduct field inspections and data collection at project sites.
  • Assist with testing and commissioning of traction power equipment.
  • Prepare as-built drawings and documentation.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and stakeholders; ensure standards compliance.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
Key requirements
  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field; 4 years of experience or equivalent.
  • Experience with electrical power systems, circuit analysis, and electrical theory.
  • Experience with AC and DC power concepts.
  • Experience with power system analysis software (ETAP, SKM Power Tools).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within two years; ability to obtain PM certification within two years.
  • Valid US Driver's License; ability to visit project sites; pass Motor Vehicle Records review.
