Overview In this role you will lead and contribute to R&D in grid control, simulation, and optimization at Hitachi Energy's Raleigh research center. You'll collaborate with a global team to tackle real-world energy delivery challenges and advance next-generation power systems, including microgrid concepts and dynamic system modeling. You'll have opportunities to publish, patent, and partner with universities and industry players, shaping the future of energy infrastructure.

Responsibilities- Propose, contribute to and lead R&D projects in power systems and related fields
- Collaborate with a global team to identify and solve real-world challenges for customers
- Propose and work on novel ideas and concepts for the next generation of power systems
- Network within the company to disseminate knowledge and expertise
- Collaborate with external partners including universities, startups, and vendors
- Disseminate results via scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports
- Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines
Key requirements- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems
- Deep understanding of power system dynamics and control mechanisms
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Fluency in Python or C++
- Candidate must have work authorization to work in the United States
- Experience preferred (not required) in at least one: monitoring/control tech (SCADA/EMS/substation automation); early-stage control concepts (simulation, HIL); power system simulation platforms (PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD/Opal-RT, MATLAB); transmission or distribution control room operations; techno-economic analysis and optimization; microservice architecture and utility communication protocols; Energy Market operations; microgrids and active distribution systems
