Transportation Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you will help deliver regional surface transportation solutions by applying standards and engineering judgment. You'll design and manage construction aspects for clients, with on-site representation in Chicago and Northern Illinois. You'll build relationships with clients and lead cross-functional collaboration to grow CKL's presence in the market. This position offers the chance to shape transportation projects within a growing, hybrid-work firm that values leadership and continuous learning. You will work to advance civil infrastructure while developing your professional credentials and industry network.

Responsibilities
  • Apply manuals and standards to deliver infrastructure solutions on regional transportation projects
  • Provide design and construction management services, including on-site representation/inspection in Chicago and/or Northern Illinois
  • Engage with clients to build your professional network and contribute to business growth
  • Foster relationships, participate in industry groups, and collaborate effectively within a team
  • Develop technical writing, proposal writing, and presentation deliverables
  • Tackle a range of tasks to sustain and grow a small business
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field
  • E.I.T. required with ability to obtain P.E. license within 1 year
  • 4-8 years' experience
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (MicroStation/GEOPAK/AutoCAD/Civil3D)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Private and/or public sector engineering experience
  • Background and substance abuse screening clearance
  • Valid driver's license
  • Legal eligibility to work in the USA
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Team player and consensus-builder
  • Willingness to learn and adapt
  • CAD design with MicroStation/GEOPAK/AutoCAD/Civil3D
  • Design and construction management
  • On-site project representation/inspection
