Overview In this Senior Drainage Engineer role at STV, you will lead drainage design for transportation projects across the West, with emphasis in California. You will guide complex designs, mentor staff, and strengthen public-sector client relationships on high-visibility programs. Responsibilities- Lead drainage engineering design for transportation projects (roadway, rail, bridge, highway)
- Oversee stormwater drainage systems, culverts, hydraulic structures, BMPs, LID features, and erosion/sediment control plans
- Perform and review hydrology/hydraulic analyses to support design decisions and regulatory compliance
- Support stormwater permitting, erosion/sediment control approvals, and regulatory coordination
- Prepare and review technical reports, drainage reports, and cost estimates with emphasis on clarity and quality
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design with roadway, structural, rail, and environmental teams
- Provide technical leadership, QA/QC for drainage deliverables (reports, calculations, plans, permits)
- Support client interactions and strengthen relationships with public-sector agencies and partners
- Mentor and develop early-career drainage engineers and technical staff
- Participate in project meetings with clients, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
- 13-18 years of drainage design experience, preferably in transportation projects
- PE license in WA, OR, or CA (preferred) or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Proficiency in hydrology/hydraulic analysis software (see below)
- Experience with stormwater management design, drainage systems, culverts, and erosion/sediment control
- Knowledge of BMPs, LID, and stormwater quality design
- Strong technical report writing and QA/QC for deliverables
- Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D; OpenRoads Designer and ArcGIS
- Strong communication skills for multidisciplinary, client-facing work
