Overview As TBM Mechanical Superintendent, you will oversee mechanical repair and maintenance of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and related equipment on the Kensico-Eastview Connection Tunnel project. You will lead craft mechanics, coordinate assembly and installation, and drive preventive maintenance and repairs to ensure reliability. You will manage vendors, control costs, and uphold safety, quality, and environmental standards. You will work with the TBM manufacturer and project stakeholders to keep milestones on track and ensure on-time delivery. This role offers impact on NYC water infrastructure and the chance to shape best practices in tunneling operations.
Responsibilities- Lead maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the TBM and supporting equipment
- Oversee workforce organization, delegation, and vendor coordination for parts and services
- Ensure safety, quality, and environmental standards on-site
- Manage mechanical lead role and implement best practices for high-quality workmanship
- Monitor attendance, timekeeping, and productivity to maintain efficiency
- Maintain spare parts inventory and coordinate consignment parts with TBM manufacturer
- Plan and schedule personnel assignments to meet milestones
- Oversee safety program implementation at the project level
- Assist in pre-planned project schedules and resource alignment
- Manage operational costs and adhere to budget goals
- Participate in weekly progress and schedule coordination meetings
- Build relationships with vendors for cost-effective materials and support
- Work extended hours as required
- Perform additional duties to support project success
Key requirements- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years of relevant mechanical experience, preferably in tunneling or heavy civil construction
- 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience
- Hands-on TBM experience with hard rock Main Beam, EPB, and/or Single Shield TBMs
- Strong understanding of tunneling equipment and best practices
- Experience with machining, mechanical repair, and steel fabrication
- Knowledge of TBM hydraulic systems integration and PLC coordination
- Ability to adapt TBM strategies to varying geological conditions
- Strong reading of construction plans and technical drawings
- Proven ability to lead craft employees and collaborate across teams
