EPL & D&O Liability Claim Counsel

As a Claim Counsel within BSI, you will investigate and resolve professional liability and related claims, advising underwriting and non-attorney colleagues. You'll guide settlements, manage outside counsel, and support strategic initiatives. This role combines legal analysis with claim management to optimize outcomes for clients and the company. You'll travel for mediations and build cross-team collaborations to inform underwriting decisions and risk mitigation.

• Analyze and resolve BSI claims with moderate supervision
• Prepare reports on loss development, exposure, reserves, coverage, and recovery strategies
• Manage outside counsel with litigation plans and budgets
• Communicate significant exposures to underwriting
• Identify recovery opportunities and coordinate with Recovery Management
• Attend mediations, settlements, conferences, and depositions
• Draft coverage opinions with case law and negotiate settlements
• Support underwriting marketing and risk mitigation education
• Draft reference materials on law impacting underwriting and claims decisions
• Maintain required adjuster licenses
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Five or more years of relevant legal or claim handling experience
• Strong decision-making and negotiation abilities within authority
• Excellent verbal and written communication for coverage determinations
• Time management and attention to detail with data analytics
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues and clients
• Bachelor's Degree; Juris Doctorate Degree; licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction
• Two years of relevant legal experience (as part of must-have)
