Assistant Project Manager (Mechanical Construction)

Overview

As an Assistant Project Manager for mechanical construction, you support delivery of HVAC, piping, sheet metal, and plumbing projects across diverse environments. You partner with the Project Manager to plan, coordinate, and execute mechanical scope, ensuring schedule, budget, quality, and safety targets are met while maintaining strong client and subcontractor relationships. You will work across teams to resolve constructability issues, track costs, and support commissioning and turnover. This role offers a hands-on path to impact mission-critical projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities
  • Support project delivery including scheduling, cost control, and progress reports
  • Coordinate mechanical trades with general contractors, other trades, and owner representatives to meet on-time, on-budget goals
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, scopes, and compliance with contract requirements
  • Track RFIs, change orders, and submittals; maintain project document control and stakeholder communication
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and invoice review; monitor labor and material costs
  • Conduct regular site visits to verify progress, quality, and safety; prepare site reports and punch lists
  • Support commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover activities with commissioning agents and owner teams
  • Participate in preconstruction and coordination meetings; review drawings, specifications, and BIM models for constructability
  • Enforce safety policies and assist with incident investigations and corrective actions
  • Maintain strong client relationships through professional communication and timely updates
  • Utilize Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, BIM/Revit to manage deliverables and collaboration
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Building Systems Technology or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of mechanical construction experience on commercial, healthcare, or data center projects
  • Experience in project coordination or assistant project management with scheduling, budgeting, and change management
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems design, installation practices, and relevant codes
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project; familiarity with BIM/Revit workflows
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of subcontractor management, contract documents, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and QC
  • Commitment to safety; OSHA certifications a plus
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP, LEED are a plus
