Overview

As Senior Tax Manager, you lead tax compliance, reporting, and advisory for a diverse platform of regulated investment funds and products. You will safeguard federal, state, excise, and foreign tax deliverables while translating complex tax matters into practical guidance for the business. You'll develop talent, strengthen controls, and partner with Portfolio Managers, Legal, Product, Treasury, and other functions to drive accurate tax outcomes. This role blends deep RIC tax expertise with hands-on leadership across funds, ETFs, CITs, and alternative structures, delivering high-quality tax deliverables in a hybrid work setting.

Responsibilities
  • Own final sign-off for federal, state, excise, and jurisdictional tax returns for mutual funds and assigned products
  • Review tax checklists and tax disclosures for annual audits
  • Oversee book-to-tax analyses and complex adjustments (wash sales, foreign tax credits, PFICs, etc.)
  • Review shareholder tax reporting (QDI, DRD, tax-exempt interest, LTCG)
  • Monitor fund distributions for IRS/SEC compliance, including excise, equalization, and Section 19 calculations
  • Review merger/ownership-change analyses and maintain uncertain tax position documentation
  • Interact with Portfolio Managers, Legal, Product, Treasury, Financial Reporting, Investment Operations, Compliance, custodians, and vendors for tax matters
  • Provide guidance on complex fund tax reporting, product initiatives, and regulatory changes
  • Assess tax law/regulatory developments and update procedures, controls, and stakeholder communications
  • Lead, coach, and develop Tax Supervisors, Seniors, and Analysts; manage workload and development plan
  • Champion cross-functional projects and ensure timely delivery
  • Develop and enhance policies, procedures, and internal controls; pursue automation and scalable processes
  • Provide staffing, hiring, performance, and development recommendations
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field
  • Minimum 7 years of regulated investment company tax experience
  • Experience with ETFs, CITs, alternative funds, UCITS, REITs, and partnerships preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of people-management or supervisory experience
  • Strong business and accounting knowledge to interpret financial statements and custodian reports
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with scalable/workbook automation a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex tax topics to varied audiences
