Overview Senior Substation Engineer role leading and delivering complex substation projects. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, perform design and calculations, and ensure quality and regulatory compliance. You'll shape substation layouts, protection and control schemes, and field execution from design through commissioning. Responsibilities- Lead complex substation projects across full scope from proposals to commissioning and construction support
- Review and produce physical design drawings including General Arrangement, Grounding, Conduit, and Control Building layouts
- Perform grounding, lightning protection, conduit fill, and substation sizing calculations and AC/DC studies
- Design and review protection and control drawings including one-line diagrams and control panel elevations
- Collaborate with civil/structural, protection and controls, and automation teams
- Conduct site visits, scoping meetings, and project estimation activities
- Maintain quality control systems and monitor project performance against metrics
- Forecast monthly fee revenue with project managers and ensure budgeting adherence
- Mentor and supervise EITs/Designers and coordinate staff training
- Support business development activities and contribute to process improvements
- Travel up to 15% within the continental US as needed
- Ensure engineering practices align with standards and regulatory requirements
- Lead and participate in design reviews and risk assessments
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering design and technology
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent
- Professional Engineer licensure (PE)
- 6-10 years of substation engineering experience, preferably at an engineering consulting firm
- Unquestioned business and personal integrity
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% within the continental US
