Analytical Development Synthetic Molecules Characterization Scientist

Overview

As Analytical Development Scientist, you will lead physicochemical characterization of development candidates, including peptides and PROTACs, to support lead selection and CMC work. You will drive solid-state analytics, salt/polymorph screening, and method development for Drug Substance and Drug Product, working with cross-functional teams to enable progression from Discovery to first-in-human studies. You will mentor juniors and contribute to regulatory filings. This role sits at the intersection of science, development strategy, and quality in a collaborative, values-led environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design, plan, and execute studies to define properties of development candidates
  • Lead solid-state screening activities including salt and polymorphs
  • Develop analytical methods for Drug Substance and Drug Product
  • Collaborate with Discovery, Drug Safety, DMPK, Process Chemistry, Formulation, and Late Phase Analytical Development
  • Provide technical leadership within projects and mentor junior staff
  • Address project issues with integrated, cross-functional solutions
  • Author technical reports and contribute to regulatory filings
Key requirements
  • 8+ years in industry with Bachelor's degree in related fields
  • 6+ years with Master's degree in related fields
  • PhD in a relevant discipline with no minimum industry experience
  • Strong understanding of polymorphism and solid-state screening
  • Expertise in solid-state analytical techniques and equipment (X-ray powder diffraction, DSC, TGA, DVS, microscopy, spectroscopy)
  • Strong analytical method development (HPLC, GC, Karl Fischer, dissolution)
  • GMP laboratory experience and practical troubleshooting skills
  • Cross-functional collaboration and strong scientific writing skills
  • Experience with external vendors and internal resource coordination
  • Knowledge of peptides and PROTACs; familiarity with in silico tools preferred
