Senior Mechanical Engineer (Continuous Improvement)

Overview

In this role you lead mechanical design and validation for WHOOP's flagship wearables, steering subsystems from concept to mass production. You collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and QA to deliver robust, cost-effective improvements driven by user feedback and business needs. You own validation strategies, DOE, and root-cause investigations, while mentoring junior engineers. Expect travel to partner sites and a fast-paced environment focused on high-quality hardware at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Technical ownership of mechanical subsystems for current generation hardware, driving improvements to mass production
  • Lead design, analysis, and development of mechanical solutions to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost
  • Lead engineering change implementation with vendors and contract manufacturers, ensuring seamless production integration
  • Define and lead DOE and validation strategies to optimize product and manufacturing performance
  • Lead root cause investigations and resolution of quality, yield, and reliability issues in production
  • Own and maintain CAD models and technical documentation (3D, 2D, BOMs, ECOs)
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices
  • Travel internationally up to 20% for manufacturing support
Key requirements
  • 5+ years in design, improvement, and sustaining of complex mechanical products (consumer electronics wearables or medical devices)
  • 4+ years SolidWorks CAD experience with best practices in part design, tolerance analysis, and DFx/DfM
  • 3+ years with Tier 1/2 contract manufacturers, driving engineering changes and sustaining production in Asia and North America
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes (injection molding, die casting, automated assembly) focusing on yield, reliability, and cost
  • Strong root cause analysis and implementing design/process improvements in production
  • Hands-on prototyping and validation to support design changes and production improvements; second sourcing and supplier qualification
  • Experience leading cross-functional efforts and mentoring junior engineers
  • Preferred: electromechanical systems integration with sensors, PCBs, and flex circuits; scalable automated test systems or production validation infrastructure
