Overview

In this role you will lead design efforts for high-voltage substations to support power delivery for utilities, municipalities, and industry. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver physical layouts, protection coordination, and system integration, driving quality and safety. The position combines technical leadership with client-facing collaboration to ensure designs meet standards and project objectives. Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of new, expanded, and upgraded substations (69kV-500kV).
  • Develop and review substation designs (physical layouts, bus configurations, grounding, raceways, foundations).
  • Perform electrical calculations (ground grid, short-circuit, AC/DC design).
  • Prepare drawings, specs, reports, and material lists.
  • Coordinate protection, control, SCADA, and communications with relevant teams.
  • Provide project leadership and oversee quality control of drawings and specs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Apply industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NFPA, ANSI) and software tools (AutoCAD or MicroStation, SKM/ETAP/EasyPower).
  • Support field activities, submittal reviews, RFIs, and site visits.
  • Assist with scope development, cost estimating, scheduling, and risk identification
Key requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Minimum 8 years in substation or power delivery engineering
  • Experience with electric utilities and transmission and distribution
  • Strong understanding of substation equipment and utility standards
  • Proven ability to lead technical tasks and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
