Overview In this role you lead the Custody team, building scalable, auditable infrastructure that underpins Mercury's treasury and investment products. You will guide technical strategy, own the architecture of core custody systems, and collaborate with product, operations, and compliance to meet regulatory and business needs. You drive reliability, incident response, and maintainability while scaling the platform for a growing base of clients. Responsibilities- Lead, hire, and develop a team of senior engineers within Custody, fostering a trusting, high-performing culture
- Own the team's technical strategy and roadmap, translating investment objectives into priority work
- Guide design and evolution of core custody systems (ledgers, security master service, reconciliation, position tracking)
- Partner with product, investment operations, and compliance to turn requirements into robust, auditable systems and controls
- Collaborate with Product and Partnerships to align integrations and technical roadmaps
- Set high standards for correctness, reliability, and incident response, balancing new capabilities with maintenance
Key requirements- 3+ years of experience managing highly technical teams
- direct experience building or operating RIA and broker-dealer custody systems at scale (ledgers, security master, cash/securities reconciliation, money movement)
- understands the broker-dealer operating model across introducing brokers, clearing firms, and custodians
- experience working with compliance and operations teams to translate requirements into practical engineering decisions and controls
- understands securities lifecycle and settlement implications for cash and positions across equities, fixed income, ETFs, and mutual funds
