Sr. Sourcing Specialist, Mechanical (Starship)

Overview

In this role you help secure critical mechanical components for Starship by driving sourcing, planning, and supplier management. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to forecast demand, assess capacity, and push for cost-efficient, timely fabrication and delivery. You'll manage vendor performance, contract terms, and risk while shaping a high velocity supply chain that supports SpaceX's ambitious growth. This position offers the chance to influence supplier choices, quality, and delivery at a program-level that directly impacts multi planetary exploration.

Responsibilities
  • Place purchase orders and resolve blocked invoices
  • Forecast demand and manage supply signals
  • Track high risk components and supplier delivery performance
  • Communicate with vendors and leadership
  • Interpret engineering drawings and BOMs
  • Develop a preferred supplier network to minimize cost and lead time
  • Support machined parts, electromechanical equipment, large machining, finishes, assemblies
  • Solve complex problems with speed and efficiency
  • Manage outsourced fabrication projects and vendor performance
  • Perform onsite vendor capability reviews
  • Author contract documents with legal
  • Manage contracts to ensure performance and apply contract terms
  • Utilize negotiations to maximize value while reducing risk
Key requirements
  • Advanced degree or bachelor's degree and 2+ years in engineering, supply chain, purchasing, contract negotiation, or related fields
  • Experience in technical sourcing, procurement, or planning preferred
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and machines; familiarity with finishes and coatings
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems and BOMs, work orders, and POs
  • Forecasting, demand planning, and lead time analysis
  • Strong data analysis skills (Excel, SQL, PowerBI)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across all levels
  • Fast learner, detail-oriented, able to operate in a fast-moving environment
