Overview

As Preconstruction Manager you will lead the regional preconstruction function, steering estimating and planning to support profitable project bids. You collaborate with the VP of Preconstruction to allocate resources, shape project strategies, and grow a high-performance team. You drive risk management, cost leadership, and GMP outcomes while maintaining strong client relationships. This role offers ownership culture through ESOP and a path to influence projects at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Manage preconstruction deliverables for clients
  • Develop project-specific strategies and resource plans
  • Support business and sales activities and presentations
  • Lead risk management and ensure deals are financially sound
  • Oversee and prepare project estimates across stages
  • Maintain current costing database with labor/material updates
  • Oversee value-added processes and GMP closure
  • Direct and review work of Estimating Engineers and Senior Estimators
  • Drive deadlines and ensure client satisfaction in preconstruction
  • Participate in sales presentations and market work to clients
  • Coordinate project planning, logistics, and scheduling with other teams
  • Engage subcontractors for pricing and support subcontractor negotiations
  • Mentor and develop staff in ethics, diversity, quality, and safety
  • Manage client relationships and expectations
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in the stated fields
  • 10+ years in construction preconstruction or estimating (or equivalent)
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to delegate and manage priorities
  • Problem-solving with a systematic approach to new situations
  • Ability to foster ownership and build cohesive teams
  • Decisive with risk-aware decision-making and escalation when needed
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
