Overview As Lead Substation Protection & Controls Engineer, you will own complex P&C designs for 12-500 kV systems, applying advanced digital logic and AC/DC expertise to protect the grid and enable renewable integration. You will work within a collaborative design team on high-visibility projects, guiding delivery from scoping through energization. The role combines technical rigor with leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and maintainable substation designs. This is a remote opportunity with travel to client sites and strong growth through coaching, training, and leadership pathways.

Responsibilities- Lead and deliver substation protection and control design projects with on-time performance
- Create relay one-line diagrams defining protection zones and topology
- Develop AC schematics and DC control/protection schematics
- Design control panels, wiring diagrams, and physical layouts
- Build accurate BOMs aligned with project criteria and standards
- Perform QA/QC checks on wiring and schematics for safety and constructability
- Contribute from early scoping to energization support
- Provide technical guidance during installation, testing, and commissioning
- Apply NEC/utility standards to ensure safe and compliant designs
- Collaborate with design staff to produce complete drawing packages for projects
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field with 8+ years of substation protection control design experience
- Experience leading substation protection and control projects
- Strong communication skills with internal teams and clients
- Proven ability to meet deadlines in fast-paced environments
