Subcontract Manager

Overview

In this role you will build and manage the subcontracting function to enable successful program execution for a space-focused company. You will structure agreements, monitor supplier performance, and integrate subcontracted work across cost, schedule, quality, and technical performance, supporting groundbreaking space security technologies. You'll collaborate with Legal, Program, and Engineering teams to manage risk and ensure compliance. This position offers influence over subcontract strategies in a fast-paced, startup-like environment that values accountability and practical problem-solving.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute subcontracting strategies aligned with program goals
  • Lead negotiation and management of subcontracts, SOWs, NDAs, and change orders
  • Design and maintain standard subcontract templates and incentive structures
  • Collaborate with Legal and Program teams on risk and regulatory compliance (ITAR, export control)
  • Manage subcontractor performance with KPIs, reporting, and escalation
  • Identify risks early and implement mitigation for uninterrupted subcontracted work
  • Lead regular reviews with strategic subcontractors for production readiness
  • Coordinate with Program Management, Engineering, Finance, and Legal to align timelines and budgets
  • Track subcontract budgets and ensure timely payments
  • Maintain subcontract documentation and audit readiness
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 5-10 years of subcontract or supply chain management experience in aerospace, defense, or technology manufacturing
  • Proven track record negotiating and managing complex subcontract agreements
  • Deep understanding of SOW development, pricing, risk allocation, and supplier performance management
  • Familiarity with ITAR, DFARS, FAR, and export control compliance
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical, operational, and business teams
  • Results-driven with pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach
