Overview

As a Diabetes Educator in the Nemours Specialty Care team, you empower pediatric patients and families through comprehensive diabetes education across hospital and clinic settings. You will collaborate with clinicians, dietitians, and schools to ensure timely, tailored learning and self-care support. You'll lead education for newly diagnosed children, reinforce ongoing learning, and support school personnel and community resources. This role offers meaningful impact by advancing children's health through education, prevention, and coordinated care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide diabetes education to pediatric patients and families across inpatient, outpatient, and school settings
  • Educate newly diagnosed children and families and assess learning needs at follow-ups
  • Serve as liaison to school systems and coordinate with dietitians to meet educational goals
  • Deliver insulin pump training for inpatient and outpatient clients
  • Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes per standards and maintain up-to-date materials
  • Develop age-appropriate educational materials and class outlines
  • Participate in data collection/analysis for ADA Education and Provider Recognition
  • Refer patients to support services and groups; provide diabetes case management as needed
  • Support ADA requirements and HIPAA/OSHA compliance; follow NCC-O Customer Service standards
  • Pursue ongoing education relevant to licensure; travel as required
  • Collaborate with providers on insulin dose adjustment and sick day management
  • Engage in telephone follow-ups and other activities to maintain education momentum
Key requirements
  • ASN in Nursing (required)
  • BSN preferred
  • Minimum one year of nursing experience
  • Minimum one year of diabetes experience (pediatrics preferred)
  • Current State of Florida RN license (or multistate)
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • Certified Diabetic Educator within six months of eligibility
  • Certified Insulin Pump Trainer within six months of eligibility
  • Continuing education for licensure
