Overview As a Test Equipment Design Engineer, you will design, build, and integrate test hardware that enables program milestones for flight-critical systems. You'll collaborate with airframe, propulsion, avionics, and software teams to translate evolving requirements into reliable test fixtures and test stands. The role combines concept, design, fabrication, integration, and formal release to support FAA qualification. This hands-on position offers impact by shaping testing infrastructure for safety-critical aviation technology.

Responsibilities- Architect test fixturing and mechanical layouts from evolving requirements
- Design hardware to assemble and verify flight-critical components with cross-functional teams
- Create test stands/fixtures for electrical, thermal, static, dynamic, and HIL testing
- Select and integrate instrumentation (sensors, DAQ, power supplies, signal conditioning)
- Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and CAD models
- Develop drawing packages, BOMs, and assembly instructions; manage procurement and manufacturing coordination
- Fabricate components with machine shop equipment as needed
- Lead integration and commissioning with on-the-fly design changes
- Troubleshoot test systems during setup and execution
- Coordinate with Lab Operations for safe integration into the P&E Lab and facilities readiness
- Prepare BOMs, drawings, and documentation for formal release; ensure FAA compliance and change control processes
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related field
- 8+ years of relevant experience in test/mechanical equipment design
- Strong mechanical design experience with heavily loaded, high-precision components, weldments, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
- Hands-on machine shop skills (lathe, mill, welder)
- Proficiency with CAD tools and electrical schematic design
- Experience with machine control panel wiring and design
- Track record from concept through commissioning
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills; hands-on lab/shop experience
