Overview As an Electrical Engineer in Distribution Design, you will lead overhead and underground distribution design for 4-35 kV projects, supporting utility and municipal clients. You'll guide design packages, perform system calculations, and coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams, driving reliability and resilience enhancements. Responsibilities- Lead design of distribution systems (overhead/underground) and prepare construction drawings, material lists, and specs
- Develop design packages for new lines, expansions, hardening, reconductoring, service extensions, and interconnections
- Perform voltage drop, short-circuit, load analyses, and feeder balancing
- Coordinate with transmission, substation, protection, and civil teams; integrate distribution automation and voltage regulation equipment
- Provide technical guidance, QA/QC reviews, and mentor junior engineers; support scope, cost, schedule, and risk planning
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs, site observations; resolve constructability/operational issues
- Apply utility standards and design criteria (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, NEC) and use tools like CYME, Synergi, WindMil
- Support proposals, field work, and client interactions across utilities and municipalities
Key requirements- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Minimum 8 years of electric distribution engineering experience
- Experience with IOUs, public utilities or cooperatives, and utility engineering consulting
- Strong understanding of distribution system operations and utility standards
