Overview As Senior Leader, you guide Stantec's Building Specialty Services in the US Northeast, shaping building envelope design and related services. You lead technical and business strategy, mentor staff, and drive project delivery for rehabilitation and new construction. You will advance building science practices, manage multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to thought leadership. This role offers meaningful impact through high-profile projects and industry influence.
Responsibilities- Define project scope and design criteria for complex envelope services
- Review design docs, shop drawings, and submittals for water intrusion, air leakage, vapor diffusion, thermal performance, and movement
- Manage preparation of contract drawings and specifications with the project team
- Conduct field reviews of new and rehab projects to verify envelope assemblies meet design and mock-up criteria
- Prepare site visit reports and Action Lists to track deficiencies and resolutions
- Perform field testing of envelope elements to verify performance and report results
- Solve unusual project problems with innovative approaches to criteria
- Interface with architects, general contractors, and sub-trades
- Provide expert guidance on design and construction methods
- Forensic analysis of envelope failures
- Conduct building envelope assessments and provide related reports
- Lead and manage project teams (1-5 staff), focusing on timeliness and budget
- Project management and technical lead on assigned projects; conduct building science research and mentor staff
- Deliver technical presentations and thought leadership inside and outside Stantec
- Review and write proposals for new work; lead business development with internal and external clients
- Mentor entry-level staff in technical and non-technical skills
Key requirements- 10+ years of experience in assessing, detailing, testing, or constructing building envelope systems
- Strong knowledge of flashing, waterproofing, roofing, cladding, rain screens, and air barriers
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Science with Building Science background
- Ability to work on active construction sites and travel regionally weekly
- Licensed/Registered Professional
- Experience with project management for multiple concurrent projects (budgets > $200,000)
- Good understanding of energy codes, rain screen principles, air barriers, and thermal performance
- Proven client-facing and team collaboration skills
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
