Overview

In this role you lead software engineering for 84.51, guiding the team to deliver high-quality technical solutions that align with business goals. You'll mentor engineers, drive continuous improvement, and partner with data scientists, engineers, and product leaders to fulfill requirements and scale data-driven products. You will shape the technical vision for AI/ML-enabled initiatives and foster cross functional collaboration with Kroger Tech. This is a chance to impact retail data solutions at scale and nurture top engineering talent.

Responsibilities
  • Execute the vision, goals, and priorities with the team to deliver outcomes
  • Lead and coach direct reports, provide ongoing feedback and conduct performance reviews
  • Drive continuous improvement and adhere to best practices in solution delivery
  • Mentor and grow technical maturity through pairing and coaching
  • Support learning and development to ensure high quality code and solutions
  • Partner with Data Scientists, Engineers, and Product talent to meet requirements and deployment needs
  • Lead the technical vision and strategy for prompt engineering and AI/data products
  • Build relationships with business and Kroger Technology partners to accelerate growth
  • Apply servant leadership in recruiting, mentoring, and team growth
  • Communicate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership
  • Drive operational excellence within Engineering and across 84.51
  • Work cross-functionally to align strategy, methodology, and execution
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field
  • 10+ years' hands-on technical leadership experience
  • Change agent who fosters a learn-by-doing environment
  • Strong software development leadership with industry best practices
  • Experience building enterprise software with performance tuning and debugging
  • Exceptional judgment, strategic thinking, and creative problem-solving
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo in a dynamic setting
  • Proficiency in Agile, Git CI/CD, and Automated Testing
