Overview In this role you drive indirect tax compliance for multiple states, with a focus on sales & use and personal property taxes. You will coordinate audits, oversee procurement tax interactions, and lead tax-projects and automation initiatives. Operating with autonomy, you'll support tax planning and address legislative changes impacting the company. Responsibilities- Review state tax compliance and ensure timely, accurate filings
- Manage day-to-day state sales & use tax audits (primarily CT) and other states as needed
- Coordinate with procurement to ensure correct application of sales tax
- Oversee tax-related projects, planning initiatives and automation efforts
- Collaborate with external consultants on tax refunds
- Oversee Coupa tax process, support procurement inquiries and drive progress through weekly meetings
- Coordinate indirect tax process improvements to enhance quality and efficiency
- Monitor state indirect tax legislation and assess impact to The Hartford
- Support tax department priorities including tax planning and special projects
Key requirements- 7+ years' experience in state tax, insurance background preferred
- Proficient with tax research tools and Microsoft Office Suite
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent
- CPA preferred
- Understanding of state and local tax laws and regulations
- Knowledge of accounting principles related to state tax
- Understanding of financial reporting standards and practices
- Strong communication skills to convey complex tax concepts to stakeholders
- Ability to identify and resolve tax-related issues effectively and efficiently
