Overview As the Materials Engineer, you will act as the steel materials authority, driving performance and manufacturability across production. You will collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Operations to optimize material and process outcomes. You will lead complex investigations into material-related issues and guide corrective actions. Your work supports improved quality, reliability, and efficiency in steel processing and heat treatment. Responsibilities- Serve as SME for steel metallurgy, alloy selection, heat treatment, and material performance
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Operations to optimize material and process performance
- Lead investigations into material-related issues (cracking, hardness variation, microstructural inconsistencies, product failures)
- Analyze metallurgical and mechanical data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Develop and maintain material specifications, testing standards, and best practices
- Lead qualification and validation of raw materials, suppliers, and alternative alloy systems
- Provide technical leadership on manufacturing improvement initiatives, new processes, and capital projects
- Monitor industry developments and recommend new materials, technologies, and processing methods
- Mentor engineers and technical teams to build internal metallurgy expertise
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience with steel materials in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Strong expertise in steel metallurgy, heat treatment, microstructure control, and material properties
- Experience leading failure investigations, root cause analysis, and metallurgical testing
- Proven ability to develop technical solutions that improve manufacturing performance, quality, and reliability
- Experience cross-functional collaboration with engineering, operations, quality, suppliers, and labs
