Overview

In this role you lead the regional community-building strategy for Arizona and New Mexico, strengthening Audubon's network and center programming. You'll supervise education and engagement teams, cultivate partnerships, and drive inclusive outreach to reach diverse communities. The position anchors cross-functional work with policy, education, and fundraising to maximize conservation impact. You will work onsite at Santa Fe or Phoenix and help shape the region's conservation leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the regional community-building strategy for Arizona and New Mexico, aligning with center operations and education goals
  • Guide cross-functional collaboration with policy and habitat delivery programs to maximize impact
  • Oversee hiring, mentoring, and supervision of education and engagement teams, including seasonal staff and volunteers
  • Collaborate with Center Directors to align programming with Flight Plan milestones
  • Establish assessment tools and report program outcomes to the Executive Director
  • Cultivate partnerships with community organizations, tribal entities, educators, refuges, and potential funders
  • Represent Audubon Southwest as needed and contribute to fundraising efforts
  • Oversee budget management and financial reporting related to programs
  • Enhance earned income through program revenue and partnerships for scholarships
  • Prepare materials for funder reporting and support fundraising communications
  • Maintain safety culture and ensure accessibility and inclusivity
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in natural sciences, environmental education or related area with 10 years of professional programming experience
  • Understanding of environmental and outdoor education philosophies and regional conservation issues
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Engaging demeanor with ability to inspire staff, volunteers, and partners
  • Commitment to Audubon's values of care, collaboration, integrity, and impact
  • Experience managing paid staff and volunteers; excellent organizational, writing and speaking skills
  • Fundraising experience including grants, donor cultivation, and working with foundations and public agencies
  • Technical skills: proficiency with Microsoft Office, social networking for outreach, and designing M&E methodologies
  • Willingness to travel regionally and work evenings/weekends; valid driver's license
  • Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and carry field equipment
