Overview

As an R&D Fluid Power & Controls Engineer, you will develop hydraulic and pneumatic equipment along with electrical controls for mobile heavy-lift gear. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to prototype, validate, and support gear throughout its lifecycle. You'll translate field needs into robust designs, oversee testing and documentation, and ensure compliance with industry standards. This role offers hands-on problem solving, field interaction, and opportunities to influence product performance across North America.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical control systems for mobile equipment
  • Create and review CAD models, fabrication drawings, and project documentation
  • Coordinate with fabrication, field personnel, and suppliers; support on-site testing and load operations
  • Develop test plans, perform validation, and implement design revisions based on field feedback
  • Prepare technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance requirements
  • Identify and procure parts, conduct cost estimates, and manage project timelines and budgets
  • Provide on-site technical support during lifting and transport projects and train operators
  • Ensure designs comply with OSHA, ASME, ANSI, AWS standards and other regulations
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry practices, safety regulations, and engineering standards
  • Produce organized equipment packages and coordinate with cross-functional teams throughout project phases
Key requirements
  • Minimum 7 years of experience designing and developing hydraulic and control systems for mobile equipment
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus; OSHA 10 required
  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulic components (pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, filters, hoses) and electrical controls (PLCs, VFDs, relays, transformers)
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Experience with CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD Electrical) and IQAN or similar electronic controls software; MS Office proficiency
  • Familiarity with OSHA, ASME B30 Series, ANSI, AWS standards; ability to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Ability to travel to job sites and work in outdoor or hazardous environments; physically capable of tool use and lifting
