Overview As Fleet Configuration & Change Manager, you steer hardware upgrades and fleet deployments for Zipline's autonomous aircraft. You'll balance engineering changes with field readiness to maximize business impact, coordinating across hardware, reliability, maintenance, and strategy teams. Your work helps scale reliable operations and optimize asset configurations across sites and partners. This role offers hands-on influence over how we evolve our fleet to support fast, safe, and efficient deliveries.
Responsibilities- Determine which fleet assets (ziplines, pods, docks, dropboxes) should receive upgrades and allocate configurations across sites and partners
- Evaluate hardware change feasibility and cost/benefit prior to manufacturing cut-ins and plan retrofit campaigns
- Lead Operational Readiness Review processes to ensure field readiness and capture engineering feedback
- Program-manage tooling, fixtures, and testers; own changes to tooling, parts, and workflows
- Plan and sequence retrofit activities, ensuring parts supply, labor, and training readiness
- Track and manage asset configuration allocations across commercial and partner locations
Key requirements- Several years leading complex hardware change deployment, fleet configuration, maintenance planning, or related programs
- Working knowledge of engineering change control (BOMs, ECOs, revision control, compatibility, production cut-ins, retrofits)
- Strong quantitative judgment (cost, capacity, reliability, maintenance, inventory)
- Proven track record building new operating processes (intake, prioritization, gates, reviews, escalation)
- Exceptional data and record discipline; clear written and verbal communication with engineers and leaders
- Willingness to engage with field technicians and operations teams to understand fleet impacts
