Overview In this role you lead complex capital projects in life sciences, pharma manufacturing, and related sectors from concept through handover, combining design engineering with construction management. You work with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, compliant, on-time, and on-budget facilities while maintaining strong client relationships. You coordinate design activities across mechanical, electrical, industrial, and chemical disciplines and align with process and validation teams. This hybrid Emeryville position offers impact at scale within a globally recognized firm.
Responsibilities- Lead end-to-end project delivery across planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning and closeout for life sciences and pharma facilities
- Develop and manage execution plans, schedules, budgets; control scope, costs, and changes to protect financial performance
- Coordinate design engineering activities across core disciplines and integrate with architecture, process and validation teams
- Provide on-site construction management: supervise contractors, enforce quality/safety, resolve issues, and report progress
- Manage client relationships and stakeholder communications; negotiate scope and commercial terms, ensure requirements are met
- Identify and mitigate project risks; lead problem solving to minimize schedule/cost impacts
- Ensure regulatory compliance (GMP, FDA/EMA) and support commissioning/validation
- Mentor multidisciplinary teams and promote continuous improvement across projects
- Oversee procurement strategy and vendor management to meet technical and schedule requirements
- Prepare and present executive summaries, forecasts, and technical reports for senior management
Key requirements- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 7+ years of progressive project management experience delivering capital projects in life sciences, pharmaceutical manufacturing or AEC sectors
- Proven experience in design engineering oversight and construction management across mechanical, electrical, industrial and/or chemical disciplines
- Strong understanding of pharma manufacturing processes, GMP requirements, commissioning and validation practices
- Experience in scope definition, valuation, cost control and scheduling on multidiscipline projects
- Excellent client relationship management skills with experience negotiating scope and terms with senior stakeholders
- Professional Project Management certification or equivalent is highly desirable
- Proficiency with project controls and collaboration tools (Primavera P6/MS Project, BIM software, cost control systems, MS Office)
- Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills; ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and make decisive technical and commercial decisions
