Complex Claims Consultant - Lawyers Professional Liability (Large Law)

Overview

In this role you will manage and resolve complex professional liability claims for large law firms, combining coverage analysis, liability assessment, and litigation coordination. You will work within a collaborative claims team to drive timely reserves, settlements, and favorable outcomes across primary, excess, and quota share policies. Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of highly complex professional liability claims requiring specialized expertise and coordination
  • Verify policy coverage, conduct investigations, and authorize disbursements within authority limits
  • Provide exceptional customer service with timely updates and responsive inquiry handling
  • Lead investigations to determine compensability, liability and damages with supporting documentation
  • Develop and execute claim resolution strategies, including reserves, settlements, and litigation management
  • Establish and manage claim budgets and resource allocation to ensure efficient and high-quality service
  • Identify subrogation, salvage, or fraud opportunities and refer for further action
  • Keep senior leadership informed with loss summaries and oversight-ready reporting
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and ongoing expertise in commercial insurance laws and trends
  • Mentor and train less experienced claim professionals
  • May perform additional duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products, policy language, coverage, and claim practices
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, written and verbal
  • Analytical mindset with critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Proven negotiation skills for complex settlements
  • Experience interpreting complex commercial insurance policies
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning new business software
