Overview In this Tax Manager role within Grant Thornton's MCI R&D Tax Credit practice, you navigate R&D tax credit complexity and provide practical tax guidance to clients. You'll supervise R&D projects, collaborate with MCI leadership, and contribute to sales and marketing efforts. You'll ensure projects align with firm standards, are completed on time and within budget, and lead your team to deliver impact. You'll visit client sites, analyze data, prepare cost and tax reports, and support business development. This is a performance-driven role in a cross functional, growing practice with global reach.

Responsibilities- Visit client locations to inspect facilities and facts; analyze accounting data and prepare cost lead and cost summary schedules
- Prepare tax computations and write reports summarizing findings
- Manage multiple project tasks simultaneously and oversee project deliverables
- Support business development through proposal development and pursuit activities
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Lead and support the team to ensure R&D projects meet firm standards and deadlines
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Masters or Ph.D. in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Mathematics, Business, Finance, Financial Engineering, Management Science and Engineering, Financial Mathematics, Industrial Engineering or Operations Research preferred
- Six to ten years of experience in R&D tax credits
- CPA or JD/active attorney's license
- Prior project management experience
- Strong understanding of federal and some state R&D rules and relevant court cases
- Intermediate understanding of tax return mechanics
- Experience with amending tax returns
- Ability to manage time, multiple engagements, and travel as needed
