Overview

In this role you will help grow Guardian's Large Market revenue and share for 1,000+ lives by partnering with Sales, Underwriting, Products and Pricing. You will price and design plans, mentor underwriters, and guide complex underwriting decisions while aligning with Guardian's values and ethical standards. You'll lead cross-functional initiatives to optimize processes and drive competitive, client-focused solutions. This position offers impact across pricing strategy, policy recommendations, and team development in a collaborative, influential capacity.

Responsibilities
  • Determine pricing of new and renewal business including alternate plan options
  • Communicate rate development and plan design
  • Negotiate with sales reps to resolve rate questions and risk concerns
  • Mentor and coach others to develop technical underwriting skills
  • Lead or contribute to projects to improve underwriting processes
  • Manage administrative processing of cases using underwriting systems and databases
  • Document case decisions and underwriting rationale
  • Provide training for sales and/or underwriting staff as needed
  • Advise on policy strategy changes and process improvements
  • Oversee barriers to achieving financial goals and propose solutions
  • Serve as a go-to person for complex technical issues and decisions
  • Support Large Market team management with result-driven activities
  • Continuously evaluate underwriting strategies and pricing relative to internal and external benchmarks
  • Assist in development, implementation, and training on new guidelines and processes
Key requirements
  • 5+ years of experience with Group Life, Disability, and/or Dental underwriting
  • Experience-based rating and risk assessment
  • Proficiency with underwriting tools and systems
  • Thorough knowledge of Group Insurance products/processes
  • Knowledge of local market competition and strategy
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Decision-making, problem solving, and ability to meet challenges
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
