Overview In this role you will provide frontline legal support for Walmart Marketplace payments and financial services, helping expand financing and payment capabilities for third-party sellers. You will partner with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Finance to embed regulatory and risk considerations into product design and operations. You'll advise on domestic and international payments laws, licensing, and complex commercial agreements, while shaping governance and playbooks for the Marketplace payments program. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role at Walmart's Home Office or E Commerce offices, offering opportunities to influence scale, compliance, and innovation in payments.

Responsibilities- Provide frontline legal support for Marketplace payments and financing activities, including merchant cash advances and settlement platforms
- Counsel on U.S. and international money remittance rules, NACHA, card network rules, AML/CTF, OFAC, and other payments regulations
- Draft, review, and negotiate agreements with capital providers, sponsor banks, and payments processors
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to embed legal and risk considerations in product development and platform design
- Support liability frameworks, collections, chargebacks, and risk controls in commercial operations
- Advise on integration of AI agents, tokenization, digital wallets, and data management in payment platforms
- Develop guidance, playbooks, and policies for Marketplace payments operations and compliance
- Work with Compliance, Privacy, Finance/Treasury, Risk, and Technology on launches and internal training
- Engage outside counsel for specialized regulatory matters and complex issues
Key requirements- J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 4+ years of legal practice in commercial banking, payments processing, fintech/financial services, or lending/advance products
- Strong understanding of U.S. payments regulations, AML/CTF, NACHA, card network rules, and related regulatory frameworks
- Experience negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements and managing multi-jurisdictional matters
