Overview

In this Senior Underwriter role, you will manage a portfolio of hard-to-place Builders Risk risks, applying AmTrust E&S guidelines to drive profitable outcomes. You will develop new business, analyze risk and exposure, and craft endorsements and pricing within a hybrid work setup. You'll collaborate with brokers and internal teams to ensure compliant, well-structured policies and responsive service. This position offers impact through portfolio growth, risk evaluation, and strategic pricing in a dynamic market.

Responsibilities
  • Build a steady stream of new business opportunities and manage broker development within the book of business
  • Develop risk pricing using exposure analysis, claims experience, and pricing tools for new accounts
  • Meet budgeted financial targets for portfolio metrics (premium, loss ratio, retention, pricing, new business)
  • Identify risk characteristics and coordinate corrective actions with relevant internal teams
  • Maintain a library of Builders Risk forms, endorsements, and manuscript wordings
  • Oversee policy maintenance, extensions, and mid-term requests
  • Ensure underwriting strategies and regulatory compliance are followed
  • Stay current on legal changes and claim development to inform portfolio decisions
  • Provide timely, accurate quotes and endorsements to brokers
  • Travel to broker offices for training or marketing as needed
Key requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of Builders Risk underwriting experience
  • BA/BS degree strongly preferred, or equivalent in experience
  • CPCU or related Insurance Designation preferred
  • Experience with online underwriting and broker portals for digital distribution
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, project timelines, delays, and natural catastrophe risks
  • Expertise in Builders Risk policy wording development and review
  • Knowledge of commercial E&S risk, pricing, and coverage options with compliance
  • Ability to implement strategic pricing, agent and rate strategies, and risk mix of business
  • Strong network in the wholesale distribution channel and broker relationships
