Overview

In this role you will handle high-end insurance defense matters and contribute across premises liability, commercial auto, products liability, construction defect, and public entity defense. You will work within a team that may offer hybrid or remote arrangements, with potential flexibility to base in LA or San Diego. The position emphasizes managing active caseloads, developing motions and filings, and advancing to trial exposure, while maintaining carrier relationships. You will shape strategy with collaboration or mentorship, aiming to support clients and carriers at scale. Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of insurance defense matters (premises liability, commercial auto, products liability, construction defect, public entity defense)
  • Draft dispositive motions, discovery responses, and other pleadings
  • Take depositions as cases develop
  • Gain early exposure to trial work with first/second chair opportunities
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers and adjusters on case strategy and coverage issues
  • Mentor junior associates when in a senior capacity
  • Balance a 1900 annual billable hour target with potential bonuses for additional hours
Key requirements
  • 1-6+ years of litigation experience or senior-level experience
  • Background in insurance defense litigation preferred (premises liability, commercial auto, products liability, construction defect, public entity defense)
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active California license
  • Trial and deposition experience is a plus but not required
  • Strong legal research, writing, and motion drafting skills
  • Ability to work independently or with mentorship as needed
  • Ability to manage active litigation caseload and maintain client/carrier relationships
