Senior Principal Engineer - Electrical Fuze & Initiation Systems

Overview

In this role you will lead advanced fuzing and initiation system work within Raytheon's Energetics and Propulsion team in Tucson. You'll bridge development and production programs, guiding design, testing and supplier collaboration for missile and space vehicle applications. You'll communicate technical capabilities to management and government bodies while driving program strategy and risk mitigation. This is a hands-on, leadership-focused position offering meaningful impact on national security and defense technology.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the integration of fuzing devices, controllers, software, and interfaces for missiles and space vehicles
  • Oversee development and production programs across Raytheon product lines and manage propulsion subcontracts
  • Review manufacturing processes, resolve issues, and coordinate with subcontractors on fuzing device design and manufacturing
  • Mentor engineers, provide frontline leadership, and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies
  • Collaborate with program management on long-range research directions and represent the program's technical capabilities
  • Interface with customers to identify needs and support new business opportunities
  • Travel to government and subcontractor facilities as required
  • Ensure safety, compliance, and certification considerations for fuzing devices and related systems
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM and 10 years of relevant experience OR advanced degree with 7 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 10 years in fuzing, one shots, engineering technology or design
  • Experience with design, manufacturing, testing, safety certification and/or compliance of fuzing devices
  • Project management experience for team collaboration and deliverables
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance (Citizenship required)
  • Communication with management and government agencies
  • Mentorship and team leadership
  • Problem solving and proactive issue resolution
  • Fuzing device design and testing
  • Safety certification and compliance (MIL-STD-1316, MIL-STD-1901, MIL-STD-464)
  • Electrical and analog/digital/mixed-signal analysis and simulation
