Overview As Principal Scientist in San Diego, you lead antibody engineering efforts within Therapeutic Discovery Sciences to advance early-stage programs and platform technologies. You'll set technical direction on discovery teams, shaping engineering campaigns from concept to lead nomination. You will develop new tools and reimagine technologies to enable next-generation antibody therapeutics. This role combines bench leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and a mission-driven focus on delivering impactful medicines.

Responsibilities- Serve as the protein engineering lead on discovery project teams, owning strategy from concept through lead nomination.
- Design, execute, troubleshoot antibody engineering workflows (affinity maturation, humanization, format conversion, expression, purification, characterization).
- Engineer and evaluate IgG, Fab, scFv, bispecific, multispecific formats and emerging antibody formats.
- Characterize antibodies using SEC, SPR/BLI, and related assays to assess binding and developability.
- Collaborate with Biologics Discovery, Structural Biology, Computational Biology, DMPK, Toxicology, and project teams to advance programs.
- Analyze complex datasets, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies for decision-making.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including AI/ML-enabled antibody design.
- Lead scientific discussions, present findings, and engage with external partners and CROs.
- Author protocols, study reports, and technical documentation suitable for regulatory submission.
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years, Master's with 6+ years, or PhD with 4+ years of experience.
- PhD in protein science, structural biology, biochemistry, or related field.
- Hands-on antibody engineering experience (design, expression, purification, characterization) including bispecific/multispecific formats.
- Direct experience with SPR/BLI, ELISA, flow cytometry, and related assays.
- Proven ability to independently design, plan, and troubleshoot experiments at bench.
- Experience providing scientific leadership and influencing project decisions.
- Demonstrated impact via publications, patents, or advancing discovery programs.
- Strong collaboration skills across programs, functions, and sites in a matrix environment.
