Overview In this role you lead Biohub's aquatic model-organism facility, ensuring safe, compliant husbandry of zebrafish and related species. You work cross-functionally with researchers and platform teams to support current and upcoming experiments. You translate research goals into actionable facility plans and mentor junior staff. The position offers impact by enabling large-scale imaging and discovery efforts that advance disease cures. You will shape operations at a critical research hub and drive reliable, compliant performance.

Responsibilities- Plans, coordinates, and manages the aquaculture facility's day-to-day activities and resources for uninterrupted operation.
- Collaborates with researchers to understand lab and husbandry needs; procures equipment, feed, and supplies as requested.
- Ensures readiness of aquaculture resources (RAS, tanks, filtration, monitors, feed, reagents) and manages inventory.
- Oversees equipment moves, maintenance, cleaning, calibration, and system upkeep to meet capacity and animal welfare standards.
- Develops and implements EH&S solutions for aquaculture safety; ensures compliance with regulations and standards.
- Manages service contracts for equipment and coordinates with vendors and researchers on maintenance.
- Coordinates facility upgrades and maintenance across water, ventilation, electrical, gas, heating, and climate control systems.
- Performs preventive maintenance and inspections; ensures timely repairs to minimize downtime.
- Monitors compliance with EH&S protocols and works with consultants to implement improvements.
- Improves methods and tools for husbandry, water quality, or facility operations, and translates research objectives into actionable plans.
- May lead a team of lab technicians; mentors staff on aquaculture procedures, animal husbandry, and safety.
- Documents SOPs, protocols, and records to support reproducibility and regulatory continuity.
Key requirements- Demonstrated experience across aquaculture/lab operations with deep expertise in at least one area (water quality, RAS, or fish husbandry).
- Clear, respectful communication with researchers, vendors, and EH&S professionals.
- Knowledge of aquaculture practices for aquatic model organisms (e.g., zebrafish).
- Understanding of semi-complex to complex scientific instrumentation and systems (RAS, water quality monitors, filtration).
- Familiarity with animal welfare and biosafety requirements for aquatic species.
- Advanced experience in single-focus lab operations, with ability to translate theory into actionable plans.
- Typically 5-8 years of progressively complex related experience in aquaculture, animal facilities, or lab operations.
