AVP, Senior Underwriting Officer, Large Construction

Overview

In this role you will provide expert underwriting guidance for the Large Construction portfolio, focusing on primary casualty coverage and OCIP/CCIP programs. You will partner with leadership, support field underwriters, and influence pricing, exposure analysis, and portfolio strategy. You'll ensure consistency across wrap-up programs and drive technical excellence across teams. This is an opportunity to shape risk strategies for some of the country's largest construction programs within a collaborative, growth oriented culture.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert underwriting guidance and referrals across auto, general liability, workers' compensation, and lead/excess for Large Construction
  • Collaborate with field underwriters and underwriting managers on mandatory referrals and consultations
  • Maintain alignment of primary casualty and excess placements, including OCIP/CCIP programs
  • Support leadership on transactions and advise on exposure, coverage, pricing, and financial decisions
  • Monitor underwriting decision frameworks and recommend improvements
  • Evaluate portfolio performance and identify drivers of results, risks, and opportunities
  • Advance underwriting technical excellence and coordinate product/service improvements and underwriter development
  • Foster collaboration across teams (claims, actuarial, product) and engage brokers and reinsurance partners
  • Join customer meetings, stewardship discussions, and new business presentations as needed
Key requirements
  • Expert knowledge of coverage forms, exclusions, and exposure
  • Pricing, structure, rating, loss forecasting, credit risk, and market knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of construction programs, operations, claims, finance, actuarial concepts, and regulatory environment
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills
  • Superior communication, negotiation, coaching, and problem-solving abilities
  • 10+ years of relevant underwriting experience, including brokers/agents interaction and market trend awareness
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
