Lead Operating Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead operations and maintenance for critical building systems, guiding a high-performing engineering team to maximize uptime and client satisfaction. You'll blend hands-on technical work with leadership, overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. You will shape maintenance programs, respond to emergencies, and drive infrastructure upgrades within a collaborative, cross-functional setting. This position offers a chance to influence facility reliability and sustainability in a global real estate services leader.

Responsibilities
  • Lead shift operations and maintenance, directing service requests with minimal disruption
  • Operate and monitor HVAC, UPS, generators, chillers, and building management systems
  • Provide training and mentorship to shift engineers and technicians
  • Plan and oversee preventative maintenance programs, including scheduling and parts management
  • Process work orders for preventive and corrective maintenance and document materials
  • Respond to emergencies with real-time technical guidance
  • Conduct facility inspections to assess operations and personnel performance
  • Develop annual maintenance plans and CAPEX strategies for upgrades and replacements
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations and keep building drawings up to date
Key requirements
  • Extensive experience with mechanical, electrical, fire safety, and building management systems
  • Strong background in raised floor critical operating environments
  • Proven leadership of engineering teams and coordination with contractors
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance and work order systems
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance for critical facilities
  • Ability to respond to emergencies with technical consultation
  • Experience in energy management and sustainability practices
  • Preferred: involvement in professional trade organizations, Critical Environment Management, construction support, commissioning, and project management
  • Knowledge of CFCR notification and CFIR processes
  • Willingness to work on-site in Charlotte, NC
