Overview

As an Attorney at Burns & McDonnell, you will advise global practices on engineering, construction, design-build, EPC and related contracts. You will guide project teams, negotiate complex agreements, and address regulatory and business-law matters to support project delivery. You'll mentor colleagues, manage outside counsel, and report on contract status and risk. This role links legal strategy with engineering projects to enable compliant, timely execution. You will work closely with internal clients to shape risk-aware, legally sound solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Review and negotiate contracts covering engineering, construction, design-build, EPC and design
  • Provide legal advice across corporate, regulatory and business law related to design and construction
  • Identify legal issues, draft documents, and present clear recommendations
  • Establish cooperative relationships with internal clients and the legal team
  • Manage outside counsel for litigation or specialty matters
  • Conduct internal training programs
  • Advise executives on contractual obligations and terms across engineering and professional services
  • Mentor and develop other attorneys and legal team members
  • Provide regular reports to General Counsel on contract status, risk analysis, and compliance
  • Participate in the risk management process
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Comply with policies and standards
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor degree (ABA Accredited)
  • Construction/Engineering experience or education strongly preferred
  • Able to become a member of Missouri bar
  • Experience with law review or other journal writing required
  • Experience in construction industry involving design professional law, design-build, EPC, equipment procurement and joint ventures preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and court decisions
  • Expertise in contract negotiations and dispute resolution
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a large workload with tight timelines
