Assistant Preconstruction Manager

In this role you will support the bid and estimating process, handling complex trades and self-perform work. You will coordinate with architects, subcontractors, and internal clients to develop accurate estimates and assemble bid packages. You'll lead preconstruction activities on small projects and help refine assumptions during early design. This position offers the chance to influence project scope, pricing strategy, and value opportunities within a collaborative team.

• Assist in pricing and bidding for construction projects, focusing on key/complex trade categories
• Lead preconstruction and estimating activities on small projects
• Document assumptions during early-design estimating and apply to takeoffs
• Clarify scope, materials, and schedule with architects/consultants and log clarifications
• Review milestone documents for value alternatives and pricing
• Participate in internal estimate review and support final presentation of estimates to owners
• Organize bid information post-bid for future reference
• Coordinate and provide information/documents to subcontractors
• Prepare subcontract scope exhibits and participate in hard bid/GMP budgeting by soliciting subcontractor bids
• Develop and maintain relationships with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and internal clients
• Stay current with estimating technology and techniques
• Demonstrate basic conceptual estimating by interpolating data
• Build relationships within McCarthy and the broader industry
• Support use of estimating tools and BIM-related software

• Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or Engineering and/or minimum 3 years of equivalent experience
• In-depth knowledge of construction principles and processes
• Proven experience managing complex work categories and/or preconstruction for small projects
• Ability to synthesize cost data from various sources into a conceptual estimate
• Experience with subcontracts and self-perform work
• Knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processes
• Working knowledge of estimating tools such as OST, WinEst, Bluebeam and BIM software
• Strong math and analytical skills
