Overview In this role you serve as the primary legal advisor to the President of Transmission and the Transmission leadership team, guiding strategic legal counsel for objectives, operations, investments, and growth. You lead the legal strategy for commercial matters, transactions, procurement, real estate, and other significant issues, coordinating with senior leaders and outside counsel to enable timely executive decisions. You will build and manage a small legal team with expertise in real estate and procurement contracting, while aligning with enterprise legal standards. Responsibilities- Serve as the principal legal advisor to the President of Transmission and the Transmission leadership team
- Translate complex legal issues into actionable business recommendations for senior leaders
- Lead legal support for development, construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of transmission assets
- Draft, review, and negotiate sophisticated agreements (purchase/sale, development, joint development, service, NDAs)
- Oversee procurement and contracting activities across vendor agreements and contract terms
- Provide strategic guidance on real estate, easements, rights-of-way, and land use
- Identify and mitigate legal risks, governance, and compliance issues
- Manage outside counsel and coordinate with central legal organization
- Lead, develop, and prioritize a small legal team and ensure efficient support
- Coordinate enterprise-wide legal strategy and alignment with policies and standards
Key requirements- Minimum 14 years of progressively responsible legal experience
- Experience advising senior executives on complex commercial and transactional matters
- Demonstrated track record drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements
- Experience supporting procurement, supply chain, construction, infrastructure, real estate, energy, or capital-intensive activities
- Experience leading attorneys and managing outside counsel
- Active license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction and in good standing
- Ability to communicate legal risks and recommendations clearly to non-legal audiences
- Ability to work independently and manage high-priority matters across functions
