Audit Manager - CPA/Public - Generalist

Overview

In this role you help lead audit engagements for a growing Wisconsin firm, partnering with managers and partners to deliver high-quality results. You will oversee planning, testing, and reporting while identifying opportunities for clients and internal development. The position blends technical audit work with staff leadership and business development in a supportive, balanced-work environment. This is a chance to shape client service and drive quality across a diverse practice.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in audit planning, budgeting, and staff supervision
  • Perform audit, review and compilation testing
  • Review work papers completed by other audit staff
  • Communicate with clients to gather information, resolve issues, and make recommendations
  • Prepare and review financial statements
  • Identify and resolve client issues with the audit team
  • Research technical issues
  • Respond to client requests in a timely, accurate, and professional manner
  • Prepare and review client correspondence; manage client expectations and satisfaction
  • Participate in staff development (supervise, train, coach, performance appraisal process)
  • Assist in administrative areas including business development, billing, and continuing professional education
  • Travel is required; support audit clients in Madison to La Crosse locations
Key requirements
  • Current CPA Certification for Managers (In process with CPA for Seniors)
  • 3-5+ years of public accounting audit experience
  • Governmental auditing experience a plus; in-charge experience a plus
  • Demonstrated management, analytical, interpersonal, and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment
  • Commitment to quality and timely completion of work
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software including CCH products, Creative Solutions, and research tools
