Overview As Benefit Specialist, you administer health care benefit programs and act as the main resource for employees seeking guidance. You will liaise with plan administrators, insurers, payroll, and staff to ensure clear understanding and enrollment in benefits. You help navigate self-insured plans and union-related considerations while maintaining compliance and accuracy. This role supports a diverse workforce and contributes to the overall efficiency of benefits administration in a healthcare-focused organization.
Responsibilities- Administer health care benefit programs and ensure accurate enrollment
- Serve as primary contact for employees to educate and counsel on benefits
- Coordinate with plan administrators, insurance carriers, payroll, and staff daily
- Ensure compliance with laws and agency interpretations related to healthcare plans
- Leverage HRIS and MS Office to manage data and communications
- Support self-insured plans and union-related aspects when applicable
- Provide timely, accurate benefit information and documentation
Key requirements- Bachelor in Human Resources or related field or equivalent work experience
- 2-3 years of benefit administration experience
- 1 year of HR experience
- Knowledge of laws and regulations related to healthcare plans
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Workday experience (preferred)
- SHRM-SCP or PHR certifications preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented and quality-focused
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- HRIS familiarity
- Workday (preferred)
